Katumba is not your typical samba band. Brazilian drums, spectacular dance choreography and a colossal sound set streets and stages ablaze! A melting pot of UK big beat, Caribbean calypso and the carnivals of Northeast Brazil – Katumba create an explosion of rhythmic revelry described by onlookers as ‘hypnotic’, ‘transfixing’ and ‘empowering’. Whether or not dancing’s your thing, you just can’t help but move your feet to their invigorating beats. Katumba’s unique blend of drums and dance has taken them to some of the biggest festivals and events around the world including Africa Oyé, Twickenham Rugby Sevens, Amsterdam Carnival and Recife Carnival, Brazil.
Created by Directors Ritchie Tunstall and native Brazilian Juliana Landim, Katumba is a community-focused project with an inclusive ethos and hybrid sound. With over 100 drummers from all over the globe, they champion diversity and positivity through powerful music and dance.
